Mounds View City Council February 26, 2007
Regular Meeting Page 15

Mayor Marty indicated that they also discussed MSA funds and how to free those up and he 1
brought up trailways and she said her office could be helpful in finding and applying for grants. 2
3
Mayor Marty indicated that he spoke with Ms. McCullum’s Minnesota Staff about information 4
about the soundwall and the big thing is that everybody realizes that Minnesota is far behind 5
other states as far as transportation goes. 6
7
Mayor Marty indicated that he brought up Bus Route 860 and how the Met Council decided to 8
pull the route and that left a lot of people with no transportation. He then said it was a good 9
meeting and everyone was right to the point and the next morning there was a transportation 10
meeting and the representative and senator there were trying to promote the gas tax of 10 cents 11
per gallon and he was against that but after hearing the discussion and the arguments the last gas 12
tax that Minnesota put through was in 1988. 13
14
Mayor Marty noted that the state of Wisconsin has slightly more expensive gas but they have 15
funds available for working on the roads. 16
17
Council Member Mueller said that the Community Center Garage Sale was Saturday and the 18
proceeds benefited the YMCA and the Community Center. Items left over will be donated to 19
other charitable groups and she would like to thank those that participated in the sale either by 20
donation or by shopping at the sale. 21
22
Mayor Marty noted that the money goes toward scholarships for kids within the Community that 23
cannot afford to participate in activities. 24
25
Council Member Flaherty indicated the Home show was going on in Blaine and some staff 26
members were at the Mounds View booth to promote Mounds View. 27
28
B. Reports of Staff 29
30
1. Review March 5, 2007 Work Session Agenda 31
32
City Administrator Ulrich noted that Staff would pare down the Agenda slightly and there are a 33
number of carryover items that there may not be time for. He then reviewed them with Council. 34
35
City Administrator Ulrich indicated that Senator Betzold and Representative Tillberry are 36
holding a townhall meeting on March 6, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. 37
38
City Administrator Ulrich reported that the joint meeting with New Brighton has been 39
rescheduled for April 2, 2007 prior to the work session. 40
41
Mayor Marty noted that entomologists are getting concerned about honey bees because mites got 42
in and killed a lot and now whole hives are dying and they do not know why that is why the City 43
will be considering a beekeeping ordinance. He then said that squad car color has been on the 44
list for a while. 45
