Comp Plan Taskforce Report
May 14, 2007
Page 2

The principal goal and purpose of the Task Force will be to review and oversee the
preparation of the Comprehensive Plan update. The Task Force would likely meet
once a month (when activity relating to the Comp Plan is extensive) or every two or
three months (when activity is minimal.) The Task Force would conclude its
responsibilities upon City Council approval of the Comprehensive Plan
amendment, after which point the Task Force would officially expire.

Recommendation:

Staff is seeking Council consent on the proposed member composition of the Task
Force and the number of participants. Staff feels a nine-member task force would
be optimum, however that decision is at the discretion of the City Council. In
consideration of the above, attached is Resolution 7083 for Council action. The
resolution establishes the creation of the Task Force, however further Council
action will be needed to officially appoint members to the group after notice is
published in the Bulletin and Focus. To provide sufficient time to accept
“applications”, staff recommends a deadline of June 6, 2007. This would allow for
formal appointments by the Council on June 11. Taking into consideration the
lead-in time required by the newspapers, this time frame would provide two weeks
for residents to submit an application for consideration.

Respectfully submitted,

Jim Ericson
Community Development Director
763-717-4021
