The Jacobson utilizes hydraulic motors to run blades, doing away with drive shaft
and belts. This drive puts more power to the blades and, with fewer moving
parts, is far more maintenance friendly.

The Jacobson deck is constructed of heavier gauge steel to extend mower deck
life. It also has contour following rollers on the front, sides, and rear, to prevent
scalping of berms and hillsides.

Staff has contacted other municipalities and organizations to discuss their use of
and satisfaction with this mower. The City of Roseville, White Bear Independent
School District and The City of Cottage Grove have all given this mower a good
recommendation.

This mower would be purchased under state contract. This would forego the
requirement to acquire additional bids. The state contract bid is as follows:

• Jacobsen Turfeat 4-wheel drive Trim Mower $17,515.00

• Trade-In of 1989 Toro 325 ($ 1,000.00)
• Trade-In of 2001 Toro 328 ($ 5,650.00)
Subtotal $10,865.00
Tax $ 762.22
TOTAL $11,627.22

The Parks Budget, 100-4360-7030 has $20,000.00 budgeted for this mower
purchase.

Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the purchase of a Jacobsen
Turfeat Trim Mower under state contract in the amount of $17,515.00 and
approve the trade in of the 1989 Toro 325 and a 2001 Toro 328 at a credited
combined value of $6,660.00. Including tax, this represents a net City cost of
$11,627.22

Respectfully Submitted,

Steven Dazenski, Parks Supervisor
