Resolution 7146 Accepting Donation from Bethlehem Baptist Church 12
13
Assistant Crane reviewed the contribution of $15,918 and outlined the letter as to how 14
Bethlehem Baptist Church would like the money utilized. 15
16
Council Member Stigney asked about the programs at Edgewood. 17
18
Council Member Mueller provided an explanation of the programs. 19
20
MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Hull. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 7146 21
Accepting Donation from Bethlehem Baptist Church. 22
23
Council Member Stigney pointed out that Bethlehem Baptist Church is contributing this money 24
in lieu of taxes, so he thinks that the City should look at contributing to something that 25
contributes more to the overall benefit of the community. Council Member Stigney said that he 26
is not against these programs, but pointed out that general taxes would not be used for this type 27
of use. 28
29
Council Member Mueller said that she would like to accept the donation and allow them to 30
specify how it is used. 31
32
Council Member Stigney indicated that this is not a donation out of the goodness of their heart, 33
but a requirement of the business agreement reached with the City when they came into the City. 34
35
Council discussed the history of the agreement reached with the Church. 36
37
Council Member Flaherty indicated he would like a representative of STAND and SALE to come 38
before the Council and provide information on what they do for the school. 39
40
Council Member Stigney emphasized that this is a limited program for certain kids, and he would 41
rather have this general tax money go toward something like Festival in the Park. He then said 42
that he is a little concerned about allocating the funds this way, because it could become 43
precedent. 44
45
