Item No: 08B <br />Meeting Date: January 23, 2006 <br />Type of Business: Consent Agenda <br />Administrator Review: _________ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Desaree Crane, Assistant to the City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 6724 Revising the Personnel Manual to add <br />Section 3.50, Authorizing Uniform Allowances for Non-Union <br />Public Works and Police Department Employees <br /> <br /> <br />Public Works <br /> <br />It was discussed at the January 3, 2006 Work Session, that there are no current policies <br />allowing uniform allowances for the Public Works Supervisor, Parks Supervisor, Police <br />Chief and Deputy Police Chief. It has been past practice that the Public Works Supervisor, <br />Parks Supervisor, Police Chief and Deputy Police Chief have received the same uniform <br />allowance benefits as the Public Works and Police union employees. Staff feels that this <br />policy should be in writing to ensure there is no confusion between union and non-union <br />benefits. The Public Works Supervisor, Parks Supervisor, Police Chief and Deputy Police <br />Chief need various uniform items for their day-to-day operations. <br /> <br />Below is the proposed language to be added to the Personnel Policy: <br /> <br />Section 3.50 Uniform Allowances <br /> <br />The Mounds View Public Works, non-union employees, are authorized the same uniform <br />allowance reimbursement benefits as the Public Works Union employees as outlined in the <br />Public Works Union Contract. <br /> <br />The Mounds View Police, non-union employees, are authorized the same uniform <br />allowance reimbursement benefits as the Police L.E.L.S Union employees as outlined in <br />the L.E.L.S Police Sergeants union contract. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Staff recommends approval of Resolution 6724, revising the Mounds View Personnel <br />Manual to add Section 3.50 authorizing uniform allowances for the non-union employees. <br />It is Staff’s intention to specifically outline a list of approved uniform items in all 2006-2007 <br />union contracts to ensure there is no confusion on what is considered reimbursable. <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Desaree Crane <br /> <br /> <br />
