Mounds View City Council January 9, 2006
Regular Meeting Page 6

1
Councilmember Stigney asked if the new entry door will be glass. Public Works Director Lee 2
answered in the affirmative. Councilmember Stigney asked if glass doors are more expensive. 3
Public Works Director Lee explained that with entry doors, to improve safety, there is usually 4
glass in at least a portion of the door. 5
6
Councilmember Flaherty asked what items will be located in the mechanical room. Public 7
Works Director Lee stated the HVAC system, water heater, and janitorial supplies will be in the 8
mechanical room. He reviewed again the recommendation to move the sink from the mechanical 9
room and to place it in the vending room. Then the vending room can be used as a serving area 10
and to wash dishes. 11
12
Councilmember Stigney asked if this building is wired for 200 amp service. Public Works 13
Director Lee stated the old building had 100 amp service and this building has a 200 amp service 14
so that change will need to be made. 15
16
City Administrator Ulrich asked if both doors can be replaced with windows and then the current 17
access door would be the entry door. Public Works Director Lee stated he will ask the consultant 18
if that meets ADA and Code requirements. 19
20
Mayor Marty asked why the bushes are being removed and if the parking lot will be located 21
closer to the building. Public Works Director Lee stated the parking lot is not moving but the 22
grades to the south will be lowered to provide ponding. 23
24
Mayor Marty asked if the shrubs can be moved to a new location. Public Works Director Lee 25
stated he can ask the contractor and stated that maybe a volunteer group, such as the Boy Scouts, 26
would volunteer to work with the landscaping. 27
28
Mayor Marty stated his surprise with the way the building sits on the property. He stated he 29
thought the building would be turned so the door would be located as a front door instead of 30
having the doors on the side. 31
32
Public Works Director Lee stated he had the same thought but after reviewing this orientation, 33
felt it makes sense to have the entry door facing Ridge Lane. He noted that both sides of the 34
building have entry doors and if facing Long Lake Road, the doors on the other side would face 35
the residential area, which would be more disruptive. In addition, with this orientation you are 36
able to view the playground areas from inside the building. 37
38
Mayor Marty stated this building will not be used on a daily basis and asked whether the 39
mechanical room can be made smaller by moving back the wall. Public Works Director Lee 40
stated that was considered but it would be complicated due to location of electrical and HVAC 41
lines. 42
43
MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Stigney. To waive the reading and adopt Resolution 6717 44
Approving the Plans and Specifications and Authorizing the Advertisement for Bids and Setting 45
