Item No. 7H Meeting Date: February 13, 2006 Type of Business: CB WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City Administrator Review _______ City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works Item Title/Subject: Reconsideration of Resolution 6726 Awarding a Contract for the Installation of a Security Card Reading System at City Hall and the Community Center Background: On January 23, 2006, the City Council approved Resolution 6726 awarding a contract for the installation of a security card reading system at City Hall and the Community Center. Attached is a copy of the Staff report and Resolution for Council’s review. At the Work Session on January 30, 2006, a request was made to bring this item back for reconsideration. It was also requested that Staff research whether other cities were using this system. At this meeting, it was indicated by three City Council members that their vote for awarding a contract for this project would not be changed. Based on this, Staff received direction to have the contractor continue with the installation of the system. Discussion: Staff was unable to conduct a metro-wide survey to determine what cities use a security card reading system. Staff did however contact the City of Roseville’s IT Department and UHL Inc. (the contractor who was awarded the contract) and was asked what cities utilize a security card reading system. Their responses are attached. Recommendation: Staff is looking for direction on this matter. Specifically, Staff is looking for Council input on whether the City Council is interested in reconsidering their vote on this resolution. Respectfully Submitted, Greg Lee, Director of Public Works
