REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: Item 11
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 91-17A
11117DS
° AGENDA SESSION DA ' 6, 1991 Report Date: May 6, 1991
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Fire and Housing Inspections - Proposal from Fire Dept.
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY;
The Fire Department has suggested that they provide all fire
inspections in the City of Mounds View. Currently, they inspect
places of public congregation (primarily restaurants) and areas
requiring a permit from the Fire Dept. The City has been
providing fire inspections in all other areas. These include
schools, commercial buildings, industrial buildings and multiple
dwelling occupancies. The City's inspector has completed the fire
inspection of multiple dwelling occupancies at the same time as
the annual housing inspection.
The Fire Department has suggested that they could undertake all
fire inspections for a minimal increase in fees. They are also
suggesting that they could handle housing inspections at the same
time. Currently the building official or planning technician
performs the housing inspection. All buildings are inspected on
an annual basis; units in each building are inspected on a random
basis during the annual inspection of the building. The fire
inspection is performed at the same time as the housing
inspection. The Fire Department performs housing inspections in
the City of Blaine as well as fire inspections . They are
suggesting that Mounds View consider a similar program.
Ron Fagerstrom has indicated that he will be at the May 6th
Agenda session to discuss this with the Council.
Ric Mi eto
City Engineer/Director of Public Works
RECOMMENDATION;
