Resolution 6852 Approving Rotary Club Membership. 10 <br /> 11 <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated this item was discussed at the June 5th City Council work 12 <br />session. He stated it was the consensus of the Council to invite the president of the New 13 <br />Brighton/Mounds View Rotary Club, Mr. George Winiecki, to a Council meeting to introduce 14 <br />himself, answer questions, and explain the benefits of the Rotary membership. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Mr. Winiecki presented the Council with information about the Rotary Club. He explained 17 <br />Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders and that members of 18 <br />club are involved in all aspects of business and government. He said they have mayors, real-19 <br />estate developers, Council members, school superintendents, principals, and many private and 20 <br />public sector members. 21 <br /> 22 <br /> Mr. Winiecki stated the Rotary Club provides community and humanitarian services, promotes 23 <br />high ethical standards and promotes peace throughout the world. He explained that there are 24 <br />many rotary clubs throughout the world. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Mr. Winiecki said that the Rotary Club has made several contributions throughout the area. He 27 <br />stated for example, that the club in Mounds View returns the funds they raise back into the 28 <br />community. He noted that $600 was contributed to a Mounds View Park, that they contributed 29 <br />to a youth latch-key program through Community Partners to Youth latchkey program, and also 30 <br />gave money to the Northwest Youth and Family Service. 31 <br /> 32 <br />Mr. Winiecki said the club gives to the local food shelf. He said they used to distribute food 33 <br />directly to the citizens, but that working with the food shelf is more efficient. He said they have 34 <br />a large Easter egg hunt which includes 700-800 children. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Mr. Winiecki explained that they contribute to CEAF, the Community Emergency Assistance 37 <br />Fund, which assists people who have needs for emergency money. He stated they hold people 38 <br />accountable. He explained that they also organize a carnival for children who have Spina bifida. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Mr. Winiecki stated that occasionally they send young women and men from Irondale to a 41 <br />leadership camp and provide scholarships to high school students. He said they have contributed 42 <br />to the Irondale choir and donated to the Mounds View library. He also noted they contributed to 43 <br />the Mounds View Public School’s caravan that has a handicapped lift, which for a nominal fee, is 44 <br />available for anyone in the 621 School District. 45
