An information sheet that was <br />distributed. This information sheet indicated that a fire suppression system is <br />required for the Random Park Building but also indicated that a sprinkler system <br />would be required for all future construction and upgrade to park building. <br /> <br />“The International Building Code has a classification system for buildings. “Group <br />A” buildings are for assembly type buildings… Code requires all “Group A” <br />occupancy buildings to have a fire suppression system” <br /> <br />On June 26, 2006, Staff provided an update report on adding a fire sprinkler <br />system to the building. The report indicated that the Fire Department had <br />reconsidered the details of the sprinkler requirements for Random and Groveland <br />Park Buildings and has determined that a lesser standard would be acceptable <br />and would still meet the intent of the code. This acceptable standard was an <br />NFPA 13-D, which is a residential style fire sprinkler system. <br /> <br />On July 10, 2006, the City Council approved Resolution 6862, which approved <br />Change Order No. 1 for the Random Park Building Replacement Project. This <br />change order was for installation of a one-inch service line to the building and <br />installation of a 13-D sprinkler system. The cost of this change order was <br />$20,559.00. <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion <br />A change order to add a sprinkler system to the Groveland Park Building has <br />been submitted by TKDA; the City’s architectural consultant on this project. <br />Change Order No. 1 includes the installation of a 13-D sprinkler system, <br />changing the water service corporation and fittings to a 2-inch service, and <br />installation of a fire control panel and associated wiring. The total cost of this <br />change order is $13,287.00
