Mounds View City Council September 25, 2006
Regular Meeting Page 12

1
Councilmember Stigney asked if the 12-inch pipe is currently installed. Director Lee stated it is 2
installed and he is looking for approval to pay the bill. He stated the pipe was required to be 3
installed and it is the City’s responsibility to install it. 4
5
Councilmember Flaherty asked how the consultants missed the fact that the Department of Labor 6
and Industry required 12-inch pipe. Director Lee stated the Department of Labor and Industry 7
did not do their review until the permit was approved. 8
9
Councilmember Flaherty asked if the consultants knew the Department of Labor would require 10
the 12 inches and said the consultants should have known, and now the City has a cost incurred 11
because of their mistake. He stated he would like to go back to the consultants with the cost and 12
ask for a remedy. 13
14
Director Ericson stated the cost of the 12-inch pipe would have been built into the original 15
estimate even if the consultant caught the issue. He stated there is no additional cost to the City 16
since the 12-inch pipe has to be installed regardless. 17
18
Councilmember Flaherty stated his issue is that the consultants missed the issue and that he 19
would like to ensure the consultants are reliable and all bases are covered. 20
21
Director Lee stated if circumstances were different, he would install the 10-inch pipe. He stated 22
if another agency says something bigger must be installed, the City would have to install it 23
anyway. 24
25
Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 26
27
8.
