Officer Keith Demarest took over duties as the <br />School Resource Officer at Edgewood Middle School after Officer Leitch was assigned to Investigator. <br />This has been a busy first quarter at the school. In addition to the regular duties for the SRO, the <br />following juvenile arrests were made in the school: <br /> <br />• Case # 06004954: Disorderly Conduct: 2 juvenile females arrested and petitioned for fighting <br />in the hallway. <br /> <br />• Case # 06004999: Narcotics and Dangerous Weapon: 1 juvenile female arrested for possessing <br />small amount of marijuana in school. Other juvenile female arrested for possessing a razor <br />blade in school. <br /> <br />• Case # 06005196: Theft: 2 juvenile males arrested for stealing bike parts from another boy’s <br />bike. <br /> <br />In accordance with school board and state rules; a handful of fire and lock-down drills were conducted. <br />These drills have shown positive results. The SRO gave a number of lectures (at teachers request) on <br />bullying and harassment; one of the most common problems at the school. The SRO has also just <br />recently concluded a drug awareness/consequence lecture for three 6th grade healthy living classes. <br />Officer Demerast reports: “It’s been a pleasure to serve as the new School Resource Officer. This is <br />one of the best positions in the police department to practice community policing.” <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />DARE / Crime Prevention <br /> <br />Summer was a very busy quarter for the Crime Prevention Unit. Festival in the park was successful. <br />Although it was raining heavily, 22 National Night Out parties were held in the City of Mounds View. <br />Officer Keckeisen had a lot of fun as a councilor at this years annual “Safety Camp”. <br /> <br />Conduct on licensed property letters were sent to three “problem addresses” this quarter with positive <br />results. Police calls have dropped to zero incidents at those addresses. <br /> <br />With the start of school, the crime prevention officer has been regularly monitoring the cross walks <br />and intersections near Pinewood, Edgewood, and Sunnyside schools. Officer Keckeisen met with 5th <br />grade teachers and students and coordinated a lock down drill at Pinewood Elementary School. <br />Officer Keckeisen also met with the Pinewood PTA. <br />
