6 <br />2401 County Highway 10 <br />Mounds View, MN 55112 <br />Ramsey County <br /> <br />Safe and Sober <br /> <br /> <br />The Safe and Sober Grant runs from October to October so the summer months brought on the last two <br />enforcement waves for 2006. The Speed wave took place on 7 Mondays through July and August this <br />summer. The results were good. <br /> <br />67 Speed citations <br />1 Driving After Revocation <br />1 No Proof of insurance. <br /> <br />In August and September we participated in an Impaired Driver wave which took place over 5 two-day <br />enforcement periods. The results were disappointing. We were able to get 2 DWI arrests over the <br />period. <br /> <br />This concluded our 2006 Grant with New Brighton PD. Now we are on to 2007 grant in which the <br />Ramsey County Sheriffs Office is the lead agency. <br /> <br /> <br />Ramsey County 800 MHz Public Communication System-Update <br /> <br />In August the Mounds View Police Department was the first police agency in Ramsey County to make <br />the transition to using the 800 MHz system. All of our portable and squad radios we are now using are <br />the new 800 MHz radios. This change was a quantum leap for our radio communications. The quality <br />and clarity of our radio communication has improved greatly, and we can now communicate with <br />virtually any public safety entity we need to, and can have designated “talk paths” or channels set up at <br />a moments notice or in advance for situations or special events where any group of officers from <br />different departments need to be communicating with each other on the same channel. Police <br />dispatching will be done on both the 800MHz system and the old VHS system until all of the law <br />enforcement agencies in the county have made the transition. This will occur within 8-10 months. <br /> <br />Mounds View Police along with all of the other law enforcement agencies in Ramsey County (with the <br />exception of White Bear Lake) will be joining a consolidated dispatch center which will be run from a <br />new building to be constructed in St. Paul. This building is under construction and is expected to be <br />completed within the next year. When this is done all police calls will be routed to the dispatch center <br />and dispatched to the designated cities. This is essentially how our dispatching is done now, and the <br />service we are receiving now will continue with the new dispatch center. <br /> <br />Video Monitoring Grant <br /> <br />The Mounds View Police Department recently received a $25,000 grant from the US Department of <br />Justice to install video monitoring equipment to remotely monitor and record locations within the city. <br />The Police Department was very fortunate to receive this grant which will allow us to record activity <br />24 hours per day at selected areas which are accessible for monitoring, and are deemed appropriate for <br />this type of public safety observation. <br /> <br />We hope to implement this project this winter.
