To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 6971, 4 Approving Purchase of Exercise Equipment for the Community Center. 5 6 Council Member Stigney said that this brings up the question of whether the City should be in 7 the fitness center business and he does not think so. He then asked the purpose of the community 8 center and said he would like to define the purpose and then define how it will be funded. He 9 further said that the broken equipment should be replaced with the existing budgeted funds and 10 this seems like the City is trying to expand the fitness center and he does not support going for 11 under funded things. 12 13 Council Member Stigney said that he would like to replace equipment with the budgeted funds 14 and then look at the whole picture of what is going to be done with the Community Center. 15 16 Council Member Gunn said that they are not increasing equipment and said that this would be to 17 replace existing equipment that does not work. 18 19 Council Member Stigney said he does not think the City needs to be in the fitness business and 20 should replace the equipment within the $8,500 budgeted. 21 22 Council Member Gunn indicated that the equipment cannot be replaced for the money allotted. 23 24 Mayor Marty said that he does not think that this is a first step toward a fitness center because the 25 first equipment was new but was for home use not commercial use. He then said that the YMCA 26 then donated equipment and now it is time to replace the existing equipment with new 27 commercial equipment. He further said that he sees this as being a small expense that certain 28 individuals can benefit from that cannot afford to join a fitness center. 29 30 Council Member Flaherty indicated that he is for this expenditure and the City needs something 31 that will stand up to the rigors of use by the residents. 32 33 Ayes – 3 Nays – 1(Stigney) Motion carried. 34 35 E. Resolution 6965 Approving Change Order No. 36 for the City Hall 36 Rehabilitation Project 37 38 Public Works Director Lee explained that Change Order No. 36 is comprised of six ASIs ranging 39 from minor electrical work to relocating sprinkler heads. Staff has reviewed these ASIs and 40 finds them valid except for ASI 106 that pertains to painting and miscellaneous items and Staff 41 has not received valid proof that these are reimbursable expenses to the contractor. He further 42 indicated that Staff recommends approval with the exception of ASI 106. He also noted that 43 there will be change order No. 37 for heating coils, roof reworking of ceiling panels, electrical 44 work, and any additional signage for adding in lettering for the finance department. 45
