Mounds View City Council November 27, 2006
Regular Meeting Page 9

compliance programs offered locally and Staff is looking for them. He then said that Staff felt 1
this would be beneficial enough to justify recommending increasing the budget and allowing 2
Staff to attend out of state. 3
4
Council Member Stigney said that he would feel that some things would be different state to state 5
and he would prefer to see something that is Minnesota based. 6
7
Director Ericson indicated that is a good point but the basis of the program is nationwide for 8
what works across the nation not just in one state. He then said that Staff would need to be 9
careful to ensure that programs are appropriate for this state but they attract attendees from many 10
states not just from the host state and they address differences among states. He further said that 11
Staff feels that the benefits would outweigh any potential legal issues. 12
13
Council Member Flaherty asked who would be attending. 14
15
Director Ericson said that it would be Jeremiah Anderson. 16
17
Council Member Flaherty asked if there is a City vehicle that could be taken to save on mileage 18
because Madison is 200 miles. 19
20
Director Ericson said that the employee is willing to take a City vehicle to save some costs but 21
there will be gas and mileage to the City vehicle. 22
23
Mayor Marty said that he is not usually for this type of conference but, after reviewing the 24
information, he feels that there would be a benefit to Staff to attend this seminar. 25
26
Mayor Marty indicated that Code compliance is a tough job and the courses offered really look 27
like they would be beneficial for the employee on behalf of the City. 28
29
Mayor Marty said that Jeremiah Anderson is a valuable and effective employee and he feels that 30
this would benefit him and he would like to support him and the department by agreeing with 31
this conference. 32
33
Council Member Gunn agreed and said that, after reviewing the information, she feels that the 34
conference would be very beneficial. 35
36
MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Gunn.
