Mounds View City Council November 27, 2006 Regular Meeting Page 8 1 Mayor Marty indicated that he would like to approach the developer to see if they would 2 consider changes because Johnson Hitch is closed and that property is up for sale. He then said 3 that he would like Staff to contact them to ask them to consider the changes suggested. 4 5 Council Member Gunn indicated she watched the Planning Commission meeting and it was 6 unanimously approved for this development and the preliminary plan shown had everything that 7 they were concerned about previous to this meeting including a concern with lighting that was 8 addressed. She then said that they have stepped forward with a ton of landscaping around the 9 property and there will be 19 homes with enough room for fire trucks and other emergency 10 vehicles and they are putting up a privacy fence around a lot in the rear to address that issue and 11 it will be owner occupied with an association. She further said that she does not think it is 12 reasonable to go back to the developer at this time to ask him to change his mind. 13 14 Mayor Marty said he is not asking the Council as a body to ask Staff to go and recommend the 15 changes but he would like to have Staff discuss it with him. 16 17 Community Development Director Ericson said that the reason it has taken so long is that the 18 developer was exploring other plans and even considered selling the project but has decided that 19 the best course of action is to move forward with the development based on the original plan. 20 He then said that the thoughts of the Mayor were considered but they felt it would be in their 21 best interest to continue in the direction of the first plan they approached the City with. 22 23 MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Stigney. To Approve Consent Agenda Item B, Set a Public Hearing 24 for Monday, December 11, 2006 at 7:10 p.m. to Consider a Preliminary Plat for the “Knollwood 25 Place” Townhome Development. 26 27 Council Member Stigney stated that he watched the Planning Commission and he likes the latest 28 plan and what it looks like so he supports the plan now that the aesthetics have been outlined and 29 the City has an idea of how it will look. 30 31 Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 32 33 C. Resolution 6967 Authorizing Out of State Conference Attendance and 34 Corresponding Budget Amendment 35 36 Council Member Stigney said that he has an issue with out of state seminars and he feels that 37 Staff can look into getting a manual or the materials from it rather than increasing the budget to 38 attend. 39 40 Council Member Flaherty asked Staff if there are classes at the University of Minnesota or a 41 community college that would gain the same knowledge as he would prefer a class over a 42 seminar. 43 44 Director Ericson indicated that there are not many good housing maintenance seminar or code 45
