(side two)
WHAT IS NEEDED?
* To construct a new Fire Station No. 1 at 1810 Highway 10. This
station will also house Administrative offices and will replace the
existing station at that site.
* To construct a new Fire Station No. 2 on 89th Ave. This station
will replace the existing station adjacent to Blaine City Hall.
* To acquire three new pumper fire trucks to replace aging apparatus
at Stations 1 , 3 and 4.
* To acquire a new aerial ladder truck for Station No. 1 and a new
aerial platform truck for Station No. 3. These will replace the
existing ladder trucks which are no longer adequate to serve the
needs of our community. Both units have been in service for 20 or
more years.
* To acquire a Communications/Command Van.
* To upgrade existing Stations 4 and 5 with crew quarters and
physical fitness rooms to encourage a higher level of participation
by our current crew and to help in recruiting new firefighters.
* To participate with three other fire departments in a joint
training facility to allow us to drill under safe conditions, not
in the street or on private buildings.
WHAT IS THE COST? The total Bond Package is $4,450,000.
All three cities will be sharing in the cost on the
same basis as our yearly fire budget.
WHAT WILL IT COST ME?
RESIDENTIAL VALUATION: $75,000 $100,000 $125,000
YEARLY COST FOR RESIDENTS
OF SPRING LAKE PARK: $10 $16 $25
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS BOND?
ALL residents and property owners will benefit because:
* Excellent fire rating will be maintained, thus keeping homeowner
insurance costs down.
* Equipment will be updated to meet growth of the three cities.
* Bond will meet anticipated needs for next 10 years.
* Maintenance costs will be reduced.
_ - . _ . re acne• wi
up-to-date equipment and facilities.
WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF WE SAY NO TO THIS BOND?
* Alternate methods of funding such as lease-back or equipment bonds
•
are more costly and restrictive.
* Another bond referendum soon with increased costs.
* Increasing maintenance costs and downtime on equipment could
seriously affect emergency response.
* Increased insurance rates if losses increase.
* Increased risk to life and property.
WHERE DO I VOTE? See your city newsletter or call city hall for
information on the nearest polling place.
FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL: Fire Department Headquarters at 786-4436
for detailed information or to schedule a
presentation for your group.
