AUG sO 7: 42 FROM ARCH I TECTURHL ALL INCA ?IGC . 002
'_,
• A. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
1. On May 16,1990,The Alliance*avis commissioned to undertake a Space Needs Study for the
City of Mounds View City Hall Building.
2. Parameters established for the Space Needs Study are as follows:
A detailed survey of present space use and of facilities including the building, equipment,
and parking.
A determination of the amount and use of space necessary to meet current and future needs
through the year 2015.
A recommendation for the remodeling of the existing facilities and/or construction of an
addition to City Hail.
3. Space requirements and needs were determined for all City Hail Departments. The
departments are as follows:
Administration
Parks,Recreation,and Forestry
Finance
Public Works
Police
• 4. All spaces located in City Hall at present were surveyed. Square footage figures were
assigned that would meet the requirements of each of those spaces as well as any additional
spaces necessary.
5. It was determined that there is at present 8143 net square feet of usable space within City
Hall and that there is an additional 5389 net square feet required to meet current and future
- needs to the year 2015. This is an increase of 66%in net square footage.
6. A Police Department addition and the remodeling of most of the existing City Hall would
ideally serve the City Hall's space needs through the year 2015. This remodeling may
include the space now dedicated to the Water Filtration Plant. It is intended that other
departments relocate in the space vacated by the Police Department, thus providing
adequate space for all departments.
7. Three basic options were discussed and studied in this report for meeting the space
requirements and needs for City Hall.
Option A proposed to build a stand-alone Police Building adjacent to the City Hail Building
with the Public Works Department and the Parks,Recreation, and Forestry Department
relocationing in the vacated Police Department area.
•
A-1
