It will be 5.3
miles long, and it is being built due to congestion
on existing Highway 10. All access to the new highway
will be through interchanges, which will be metered.
Mr. Benson reviewed the stages the project has gone
through, back to 1979. County Road J will be done
in 1992, to Highway 65, with the entire project to
be completed in 1996.
James Nelson, 8303 Red Oak Drive, asked how traffic
would be handled during construction.
Craig Robinson, of MnDOT, reviewed the plan and showed
on the map how 'traffic will be directed. The road
will be closed off for a very hort time, perhaps two
weeks, and traffic will be rerouted. •
Lyle Nelson, no address given, expressed concern
with both noise and air pollution, stating 59, 900
cars are projected by the year 2000, and he questioned
where all those cars are going to go. He also stated
he felt those cars would be going through his yard.
Mr. Benson explained the ramps will be metered to
control traffic.
Mr. Robinson reviewed the noise abatement situation,
explaining that due to Legislative action, noise
abatement cannot be put in until the road is recon-
structed. However, the noise projections for 2000
do not show significant increases in levels. There
is a Legislative moratorium on noise abatement, and
while individual communities have attempted to
address it, it is very expensive.
Mr. Nelson read from an article published on November
1, 1979 in the New Brighton Bulletin, and stated he
feels this meeting is no more than a formality, as
the people have no say in the matter.
Jerry Linke, 2319 Knoll Drive, asked what projections
111 are for 35W.
