• Mounds View Planning Commission August 20, 1997
Special Meeting Page 10
location of such a facility on the site is in opposition to the City's desire to create a
gateway element in this quadrant of the Highway 10/Silver Lake Road intersection.
Chuck Durand, on behalf of the developer, stated that an RV service center could be
installed on the site in a low visibility area, possibly next to the car wash. Mr. Durand
said that there is truly aneed-within-the-community-for thistype-of service-and-it-his
opinion that it could be provided in good taste.
Mr. Ruggles told the Commission to his knowledge the closest service site was a station
in the Forest Lake area.
Commissioner Stevenson stated that there might possibly be one located at the
intersection of 694 and Lexington.
Planner Peters stated that the development is well over the required parking space
dimensions and this fact could lead to a possible shift in building locations that might
accommodate the installation of the RV service site.
• Commissioner Brasaemle stated his concern for the large RV vehicles being parked in
the gateway area. He added his concern for the "black water" being stored or dumped in
areas that also have gasoline storage tanks in a near by location.
Associate Ericson told the Commission that the Staff has not researched the issue or done
any checking with other agencies in regards to an RV service center being installed in
Mounds View.
Mr. Durand suggested contacting the City of Bloomington in regards to ordinances that
relate to the RV service centers.
Chair Peterson conducted a straw poll of the Commissioners as to their feelings if they
are for or against an RV service center and where it should be located on the proposed
site. The results indicated the majority of the Commission are in favor of the service as
long as it is out of visual range of the gateway area.
Planner Peters stated the developer has been asked to redesign the back of the two-story
office building to give it better visual appeal from all angles of view.
Chair Peterson asked about the developers plans for the trails that are being considered
for the wetland area.
•
