The applicants <br /> explained to the Planning commission <br /> that in order for Marios to be <br /> successful, it needs a sign package that <br /> tells what they sell since it is-not -a - _ <br /> household name as Block Buster Video. <br /> They need the words "games" and "video" <br /> in larger print. Mr. Jahnke displayed a <br /> new drawing and requested signage in <br /> addition to the 238 square feet already <br /> proposed. The applicants are requesting <br /> an additional 8 'x3 ' sign (24 square <br /> feet) of neon lettering which would be <br /> located on the south side of the <br /> building to the east of the illuminated <br /> awning for a total of 262 square feet. <br /> The applicants explained that they want <br /> to get the attention of not only Mounds <br /> View residents but the surrounding <br /> • communities as well. <br /> The Planning Commission compared the <br /> signage requested by the applicant with <br /> signage already existing in Mounds View <br /> Square. The applicant also showed a <br /> picture of the previous Country Club <br /> signage which had been grandfathered in. <br /> Planner Harrington explained to the <br /> Planning Commission that the resolution <br /> would require a 2/3 affirmative vote. <br /> Commissioner Miller made a motion to <br /> approve Resolution No. 387-9.4 <br /> recommending approval of a variance for <br /> sign area of 262 square feet. The <br /> motion fails due to lack of a second. <br /> Motion/Second: Nelson/Colleen to <br /> recommend denial of Resolution No. 387- <br /> 94 . <br /> Motion Failed <br /> 7 ayes 0 nays <br /> . Planner Harrington informed the <br /> applicant that if they wanted to appeal <br /> the Planning Commission' s decision to <br /> the City Council it would be discussed <br />
