• NEW BRIG} TON <br /> CHAPTER Ix. SIGNS <br /> SECTION 9-010. PURPOSE <br /> It is the intent of this chapter to permit the use of signs which are compatible with their <br /> surroundings and are legible while, at the same time, assuring that the public is not <br /> endangered or distracted by the unsafe or indiscriminate use of such signs. <br /> The Council has determined that the regulations set forth in this chapter are necessary for the <br /> following reasons, among others: to preserve the residential character of residential <br /> neighborhoods; to preserve order and cleanliness; to avoid the appearance of clutter; to <br /> protect property values; to avoid litter and the growth of weeds around signs; to reduce the <br /> traffic hazard caused by distractions to motorists and impairment of sight lines; to ensure that <br /> the City remains an attractive place to live and work; to reduce administrative burdens; and <br /> to protect the health, safety, welfare, morals, convenience, and comfort of the public. <br /> SECTION 9-020. Paulus <br /> A permit shall be required for the erection, relocation, repair, or modification of a sign <br /> regulated by this code except those signs not requiring permits under Section 9-040. <br /> 410 a. No sign shall be erected, modified, or relocated or repairs made costing more <br /> than fifty dollars (550.00) without first obtaining a permit. Such permit will be <br /> void within three (3) months if the sign has not bee installed. <br /> b. A permit may be obtained by submitting a completed application with the City <br /> Planner. <br /> c. Permit fees shall be established by City Council resolution. <br /> SECTION 9-030. DE IITIONS <br /> a. Above roof sign. A sign, any potion of which is displayed above the peak of <br /> the roof line or beyond the outline of the building or roof as viewed from the <br /> front of the sign. <br /> b. Billboard. A sign erected and used for the primary purpose of advertising <br /> products, goods, or services other than those offered on the premises of the <br /> sign. <br /> c. Campaign sign.
