A 2005 ¾ Ton Ford F-250 4X4 can be purchased from Superior Ford under state
contract, foregoing the requirement of acquiring additional bids, for $21,328. Tax,
license, and transfer fees would cost an additional $1,416.32.

The truck that will be traded in is Unit No.731, a 1990 Chevrolet ¾ Ton Utility
Truck. It is currently in a usable condition and retains a salvage value due to the
City’s extensive maintenance program. This truck will go to the Government
Auction as soon as the City acquires the new replacement truck.

In addition to the truck itself, additional equipment and options are necessary to
fully utilize this truck. These include: a safety cab protector (back rack), strobe
light, 2-way radio, specialized antenna, safety lights, work/tool box and “City of
Mounds View” logos. These items can be purchased for approximately $1,800.

A summary of the proposed truck replacement is as follows:

• 2005 ¾ Ton 4X4 Ford F-250 Pick Up Truck $21,328
• Tax, License, and Transfer Fees $1,416.32
Subtotal: $22,744.32

• Equipment $1,800

Total: $24,544.32

The 2005 General Fund, Parks Vehicle Account (Account 100-4360-7030) has
$28,000.00 budgeted for this pick up truck purchase.

Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the purchase of a 2005 ¾ Ton
Ford F-250 4X4 Pick Up Truck under state contract and award a contract to
Superior Ford in the amount of $22,744.32 for the purchase of this truck,
including tax, license, and transfer fees.

Staff also recommends that the City Council approve the purchase of equipment
for the 2005 ¾ Ton Ford F-250 4X4 Pick Up Truck from local equipment supply
companies in the amount of approximately $1,800.

Finally, Staff recommends that the City Council approve the disposal of Unit
No.731, a 1990 Chevrolet ¾ Ton Utility Pick Up truck, via Government Auction,
as soon as the above mentioned truck is put into service. The trade-in amount is
estimated to be $1,500.00 to $2,000.00. The amount sold for at Government
Auction is not established until date of sale. The City can put a “reserve” on the
truck to guarantee the sale of no less than $1,500.

Respectfully Submitted,

Greg Lee, Director of Public Works
