Purchase a new tanker truck as budgeted
Staff is recommending that the Tanker Truck be traded in and replaced with a
similar truck with similar equipment and options. A 2005 Sterling Acterra Chassis
can be purchased on the State Bid from Boyer Ford Trucks for $55,593.00.

The proposed tanker is recommended to be diesel powered to attain better
performance with greater fuel economy. It is also recommended that the pump
will run off the power plant engine through power take off (P.T.O.) and hydraulics
instead of using a second engine to run the pump. This would have a 20-year tank warranty and will not rust.

Bids for these items were received at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2005
at City Hall. Attached is a copy of the specifications. A total of two (2) bids were
received. The low bid of $55,555.00 was submitted by ABM Equipment and
Supply of Hopkins Minnesota. The bid also included a bid alternate of $3,998 for
a stainless steel tank. The bid has been reviewed and found to be in order.

A complete bid summary is as follows:
ABM Equip. & Supply Base bid $55,555.00
Bid alternate $ 3,998.00
TOTAL $59,553.00

Ruffridge Johnson Base bid $58,384.00
Bid alternate $10,277.00
TOTAL $68,661.00

The existing 1981 Tanker Truck is currently in a usable condition and retains a
salvage value due to the City’s extensive maintenance program. The trade-in
amount offered by ABM Equipment and Manufacturing is $8,000 (conditional on
