City must now provide due to federal mandates, Staff recommends that the <br />Council approve retaining the historic staffing levels by employing a total of ten <br />(10) summertime Public Works Positions. <br /> <br /> <br />PAY RATES <br />For the 2004 season, the new hires started at the hourly rate of $10.00/hr with <br />the possibility of advancing to $10.50/hr after one month of satisfactory <br />performance. Returning seasonal workers were compensated at $10.75/hr. <br /> <br />Due to the difficulty in finding qualifies individuals, the low number of applicants <br />applying for these positions in 2004, and the overall cost of living, Staff is <br />recommending that new hires start at the hourly rate of $10.25/hr with the <br />possibility of advancing to $10.75/hr after one month of satisfactory performance. <br />Returning seasonal workers would be compensated at $11.00/hr. This <br />represents a 2.4% average overall increase over previous 2004 rates. <br /> <br />Each summer seasonal employee will work 40 hours per week. The fall seasonal <br />employee and ice rink employee may also work 40 hours per week: however, <br />hours may be fewer.
