Mounds View City Council March 28, 2005 <br />Regular Meeting Page 21 <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn gave a reminder about the smoking ban in all bars and restaurants that 1 <br />will go into effect on the 31st. 2 <br /> 3 <br /> B. Staff 4 <br /> 5 <br />City Clerk/Administrator Ulrich gave a reminder that the City’s town meeting will be held on 6 <br />Saturday, April 30th. 7 <br /> 8 <br />1. Golf Course Quarterly Report 9 <br /> 10 <br />Mary Berg from the Bridges Golf Course stated that she didn’t include financial information 11 <br />because they are still waiting for the financials from last year to be completed. She stated 12 <br />that the outdoor signs had been installed, and they had received their first payment of 13 <br />$62,000. She explained some of the work that has been done on the golf course over the 14 <br />winter months. She stated a lot of her time is spent on marketing strategies. She went over 15 <br />some of they flyers that they advertise in. She stated that the soil testing had been done. She 16 <br />stated that the taxpayer’s taxes aren’t impacted to help the golf course. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Mayor Marty stated that there has always been a misconception that the golf course is costing 19 <br />the resident’s money out of their pockets. He stated if the projections are right on, by the 20 <br />time it’s paid off in 2018, it’s anticipated that there will be $400,000 per year in income 21 <br />that could be realized by the City. He noted that the Bridges Golf Course had out performed 22 <br />all other nine whole municipal courses in 2004. 23 <br /> 24 <br />Ms. Berg stated she appreciated him making that comment. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Dave Jahnke stated that he wanted a financial report with numbers on it, and not a slide 27 <br />presentation. 28 <br /> 29 <br />Ms. Berg stated that there was a lot of financial information in the fall report, and she 30 <br />doesn’t have any additional information to report now. 31 <br /> 32 <br />Mr. Jahnke stated that Mounds View is not in good shape financially, and the green space at the 33 <br />Bridges is not helping to pay the bills. He stated that when they built the golf course, they told 34 <br />them how much money it was going to make, and they had hired a very expensive outfit to 35 <br />analyze it. 36 <br /> 37 <br />Council Member Stigney stated that they had been told that after three years it was going to be 38 <br />contributing to the tax base. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Mr. Jahnke stated that there are too many golf courses, and 15 have closed down already.
