Item No: 08E <br />Meeting Date: July 25, 2005 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: _____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Chief of Police, Mike Sommer <br />Item Title/Subject: Approval to Hire Peter Berling as Police <br />Officer <br />Date of Report: 7-25-05 <br />Background: <br /> <br />The City Council has approved the hiring of a Police Officer for a current vacancy in the <br />Police Department. The Police Civil Service has certified an active eligibility list for the <br />position based on previously conducted testing components, which included written <br />testing, and interviews. The top three candidates on the list are as follows: <br /> <br />1. Peter Berling (Total score =81.8 <br />2. Matthew Smith (Total score= 80.9 <br />3. Dan Mack (Total score=80.8) <br /> <br />The #1 candidate, Peter Berling, has successfully completed all of the required testing <br />procedures, which included a background examination, physical examination, <br />psychological examination and physical agility testing. <br /> <br />The Chief of Police has personally met and interviewed Mr. Berling and recommends he <br />be hired to the position. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff seeks council approval to proceed with appointing Peter Berling to the Position of <br />Police Officer at the step one rate of pay for the position in accordance with the Law <br />Enforcement Labor Services Contract, which governs the compensation for this position. <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Mike Sommer <br />Chief of Police <br /> <br /> <br />
