0 <br /> Staff Memo <br /> To: Economic Development Commission Members <br /> From: Cathy Bennett, Economic Development Coordinator <br /> Date: August 17, 1994 <br /> Agenda Item: Discussion and Approval of EDC Mission Statement & <br /> 1994 Work Plan. <br /> As discussed at the last meeting, the commission should establish a mission <br /> statement and a work plan for 1994. It was indicated that the mission statement <br /> should be short and concise instead of the longer purpose that is stated in the <br /> 0 Municipal Code which is as follows: <br /> The Commission shall serve as an Advisory Commission to the Economic <br /> Development Authority, hereinafter the "Authority', on matters relating to fostering <br /> a positive economic climate, encouraging economic development, and enhancing <br /> the tax base of the City. The Commission shall also make recommendations to the I <br /> Authority regarding retention and expansion of existing businesses, attraction of <br /> desirable new businesses, redevelopment and rehabilitation opportunities, and <br /> other appropriate economic development strategies." <br /> If you have suggestions for a shorter, more concise mission statement, please <br /> call me prior to the meeting and I will prepare a list of options for the <br /> commission to choose from. <br /> I have attached some ideas for a work plans for 1994. There are only a few <br /> months in 1994, so a lot of the ideas are the beginning process for <br /> recommendations for program implementation in 1995. <br /> 111 <br />
