•
Staff Memo
To: Economic Development Commission Members
From: Cathy Bennett, Economic Development Coordinator
Date: March 16, 1995
Agenda Item: Discuss Procedures for Commission Member
(5.a.) Involvement in Business Retention Calls
Even though the City participated in the North Metro Business Retention & Expansion
Survey (BRE) process, retention and communication with local businesses is an
ongoing process. Even more importantly it is beneficial for the business leaders to
have contact from representatives other than City Staff, namely the EDC. Therefore, a
procedure for your participation in business retention calls should be reviewed.
can411
be responsible for four types retention team p of interviews:
1 . Meet and welcome new businesses to the community and educate them on the
programs and services available to them as part of the Mounds View business
community.
Since the City participated in the BRE process there have
been at least three new additions to the community worth
visiting. (C.G. Hill & Sons, Crouse Cartage Company, 2nd
Wind Exercise Equipment)
2. Proactively meet with key companies in the community on an annual basis as a
courtesy and to spearhead issues before they become a problem.
There were 55 companies (34%) that did not participate in
the North Metro Business Retention and Development
Survey. I have attached a list of those companies for your
review. The EDC should make an effort to meet with these
companies so that we may have a complete database of
information on every company within the City.
•
