THE BENEFITS • Universal landscape design and site furnishing standards to all new and renovated buildings within the district. • The landscaping shall emphasize massing of plant materials over isolated or scattered placement of individual specimens. • All building components shall have proportions that relate to the facade of the building and relate well with one another. • Colors shall be harmonious. LOUIS PARK (information taken from Streetscape Master Plan, April 1995). THE PROJECT The City of St. Louis Park has recognized the lack of focus to the community such as a "Main Street." Excelsior Boulevard has long been identified as a potential Main Street for the city. The Boulevard has evolved from one of the original vehicular links between Minneapolis and western suburbs, into a contemporary auto-oriented commercial artery. Excelsior Boulevard serves many purposes within both the region and City being a community link, major roadway, gateway, mixed-use commercial district and regional landmark, and a working main street. 15 •
