ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br /> 1997 WORK PLAN <br /> Mission Statement: • <br /> The Economic Development Commission shall serve as an advisory body to the Economic <br /> Development Authority to promote a positive economic climate and revitalize the <br /> community by developing programs to retain and expand existing businesses, attract <br /> desirable new businesses, and redevelop target areas in the City. <br /> Action Steps: <br /> ■ Review and make recommendations to the EDA on programs and opportunir€es to <br /> enhance business development and retention. <br /> • Advocate for an approved Redevelopment Plan for Highway 10, Section 9 and <br /> encourage further study and planning for the entire Highway 10 Corridor as an <br /> important element in the positive economic vitality of Mounds View. Continr/ <br /> as the catalyst for and provide input on the development of a Corridor redeveiopnlen t. <br /> plan. <br /> • Review and make recommendations to the EDA on applications for the E • <br /> Business Improvement Partnership Program. <br /> ■ Provide comment to the Planning Commission in their analysis of the revision of the <br /> Mounds View Comprehensive Plan as it relates to the Highway 10 Corridor. <br /> ■ Evaluate staff research on innovative programs of other metro area cities as it ;P �'"f <br /> to development, redevelopment and housing rehabilitation. <br /> • Work cooperatively with the Planning Commission in evaluating design standards for <br /> new development and redevelopment in the City. <br /> ■ Annually monitor and provide input on the Mounds View Housing Replacement <br /> Program. Evaluate the program's effectiveness as a tool in providing the community <br /> with affordable and life cycle housing and generating positive long term economic <br /> growth and ensure that it meets the requirements under the Mounds View's Tax <br /> Increment Plan. <br /> • Participate with staff in retention calls to local businesses. <br /> • Communicate on a regular basis with the public on the Economic Developmeedt <br /> Commission activities, encouraging written or verbal comment, through the City <br /> Newsletter, cable and other interactive avenues. <br /> • <br />
