o Objective: To lend an atmosphere of activity to the corridor. <br /> PARKS, OPEN SPACE AND NA fURAL RESOURCES <br /> • • Goal#1: Section 9 will exemplify the City's commitment to achieving and maintaining open <br /> space for use by the community <br /> o Objective: To promote the incorporation of public or private open space on development <br /> and redevelopment sites within the corridor. <br /> o Objective: To establish an image within the corridor that can serve to demonstrate to the <br /> broader community the importance of open space. <br /> o Objective: To encourage the reduction in the amount of hard-surfacing through shared <br /> parking arrangements in order to derive more useable open space. <br /> o Objective: To determine whether reasonable sites exist within Section 9 for the <br /> establishment of public parklands. <br /> • Goal #2: The City recognizes the importance of its natural resource base and will strive to <br /> maintain these valuable amenities. <br /> o Objective: To incorporate sensitive natural resources into development plans in a manner <br /> • that promotes the creation of on-site amenity features for enjoyment by the broader <br /> community. <br /> o Objective: To support the retention of mature tree stands on properties within the <br /> corridor where such woodlands can reasonably be incorporated into site design and will <br /> not significantly compromise the site's development potential. <br /> o Objective: To enhance existing wetlands in order to derive maximum aesthetic benefit <br /> for surrounding properties. <br /> ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND REDEVELOPMENT <br /> • Goal #1: Economic development and redevelopment efforts within Section 9 will focus on <br /> the creation of a strong and diverse neighborhood while enhancing the city's tax base. <br /> o Objective: To retain existing businesses where possible. <br /> o Objective: To recruit those businesses that would enhance and diversify the business <br /> climate within Section 9 and along the entire Highway 10 corridor. <br /> o Objective: To target uses that can contribute to an increased tax base for the city without <br /> compromising sound land use planning practices or corridor goals and objectives. <br /> 21 <br />
