Item No. 5A <br />Meeting Date: March 23rd, 2000 <br />Type of Business: EB <br />EB: EDC Business <br />IN: Informational Item <br />of Mounds View Staff <br />To: Economic Development Commission <br />From: Aaron Parrish, Economic Development Coordinator <br />Item Title/Subject: Highway 10 Issues <br />Date of Report: March 14, 2000 <br />Background: <br />As you may know, on February 25th a young man lost his life attempting to cross Highway 10 at <br />Edgewood Avenue. While there are many issues surrounding Highway 10, this particular incident <br />has prompted an examination of the Highway's safety. Beyond safety concerns, it has been the <br />position of the Council to look at Highway 10 from a holistic perspective including economic, <br />recreational, and aesthetic considerations. <br />At this point, city staff is reviewing potential options for a traffic study and exploring funding <br />opportunities for assorted public improvements. A review of past Highway 10 planning efforts has <br />also been conducted. Slides highlighting past studies have been included for your review. <br />In addition, on Monday March 13th, 2000 the Economic Development Authority approved funding for <br />a study to be completed by Springsted Public Finance Advisors.
