Item No: 8O <br />Meeting Date: Aug 22, 2005 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, Community Development Director <br />Item Title/Subject: Consideration of Resolution 6609, a Resolution <br />Authorizing the Hire of ____________ to the Position of <br />Planning Associate <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />On June 13, 2005, the City Council adopted Resolution 6559, a resolution authorizing staff to <br />advertise for the vacant planning associate position in the Community Development <br />Department. The position was vacated in earlier this year after the former planning <br />associate accepted a position with a state agency. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> Staff advertised the opening on the City’s website, on the League of MN Cities website, with <br />the StarTribune and with the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association. The <br />starting annual salary advertised for the position was $36,982, which represents the current <br />Step 1 of the pay range. We received almost 50 applications for the position, of which seven <br />were selected for interview. Staff interviewed five of those candidates (two had already <br />found a job) and after checking employment and personal references, the position was <br />offered to ____________________. <br /> <br />Salary: <br /> ______________ would start at Step 1, which is $36,982. The City’s personnel policy <br />states that ___ will progress to Step 2 after 6 months, Step 3 after twelve months, Step 4 <br />after twenty-four months and finally Step 5 after thirty-six months of employment. Again, this <br />progression is consistent with the City’s personnel manual. All other personnel policies <br />apply, no deviations have been made or offered. <br /> <br />Start Date: <br /> <br />_______________ would begin employment on or after Monday, August 29, 2005. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends the City Council adopt Resolution 6609, a resolution approving the hire of <br />_______________ to the position of Planning Associate, effective date of August 29, 2005, <br />pending satisfactory background check. <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> ________________________ <br />James Ericson <br />Community Development Director <br />
