Deputy Fire Chief Kruger stated that is 7 correct. Mayor Marty thanked the Fire Department for coming in under bid. He asked about the 8 equipment contained in Appendix D and whether equipment is salvaged from current trucks. 9 10 Deputy Fire Chief Kruger stated they are hopeful that one of the engines to be replaced will be 11 retained as a reserve engine in case an engine is out of service for repairs. He stated they would 12 take the best of the equipment for reuse but some is aged. Existing loose equipment and could be 13 sold, used as spares, or reallocated to other stations. 14 15 Mayor Marty noted one of the engines being replaced is almost 20 years old so he understands 16 that the loose equipment on that engine would also be used. 17 18 Mayor Marty asked about General Safety Equipment being located in Wyoming, Minnesota. 19 Deputy Fire Chief Kruger stated that is correct and the Council, if they desire, can stop in to see 20 the trucks being built. 21 22 MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Flaherty. To waive the reading and adopt Resolution 6614 Accept 23 Bid for Purchase of Two Fire Engine Apparatus and Accompanying Appendixes. 24 25 Ayes-5 Nays-0 Motion carried. 26 27 Deputy Fire Chief Kruger presented a colored rendition depicting the front and entry views of the 28 new fire station, as proposed, incorporating the suggestions of the member City Councils. 29 30 H. Consideration of Fire Personnel Deployment to Louisiana 31 32 Community Development Director Ericson referenced the report from Fire Chief Zikmund 33 advising that the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Homeland Security Division, has 34 received a request from their counterpart in Louisiana for three strike force teams. In turn, the 35 SBM Fire Department was asked to provide a strike force team. This is a readiness request, 36 versus a deployment request. He explained that this is being brought to the Council’s attention 37 because a Mounds View employee, Jeremiah Anderson, would potentially be a part of the 38 deployment. Mounds View would continue to pay the employee during the two-week 39 deployment, however, at a future date the City would be reimbursed by FEMA for all personnel 40 costs. Director Ericson stated he supports providing help for the Louisiana victims of Hurricane 41 Katrina. 42 43 Fire Chief Zikmund provided a brief update on this request. He advised that the request was 44 received the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. He explained that a Strike Force is comprised of a 45
