Mounds View City Council September 26, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 4

1
Mayor Marty explained that he asked City Administrator Ulrich to prepare this proclamation. He 2
reviewed how quickly City Staff responded to the storm including Police Officers using flood 3
lights to check power lines, trees, and putting out safety cones. A resident had commented to 4
him that while most are in their basement, Staff was out in the storm to assure the resident’s 5
safety. Mayor Marty stated he was able to receive a full report the night of the storm. 6
7
Mayor Marty reviewed that the next morning Staff was getting telephone calls so he toured the 8
neighborhoods with City Administrator Ulrich, Police Chief Sommer and the Deputy Police 9
Chief. He explained the northern side neighborhoods did not have much damage but the eastern 10
side, south of County Road I sustained more damage. Mayor Marty stated that he was informed 11
yesterday morning that some residents still do not have power. 12
13
Mayor Marty stated he saw neighbors helping neighbors and it gave him a good feeling about 14
Mounds View. He noted there is still a lot of clean-up to do but a lot has been done, even by 15
school children since they did not have school. Mayor Marty thanked Staff and all who helped 16
their neighbors throughout the City. 17
18
Ms. Haake cautioned residents about tree removal contractors who provide a very high bid and 19
suggest to homeowners that the cost can be put against their homeowners insurance. She advised 20
of the $8,500 bid she received to remove three oak trees and one evergreen tree but was then able 21
to settled on a bid of $1,000. Ms. Haake advised that tree removal costs cannot go on insurance 22
unless the tree hits the house. 23
24
Mayor Marty announced that storm damage cleanup begin on September 27 and will continue 25
until the City has been picked up. Pickup will occur through the City one time so it is important 26
to assure all trees and brush are at the boulevard as soon as possible. He advised that residents 27
can also use a no-cost temporary brush site in New Brighton located on Old Highway 8 and 28
reviewed the days and hours of collection. Mayor Marty stated this service is only available to 29
residents of Mounds View, Arden Hills, and New Brighton and residents must show their drivers 30
license at the time of disposal. In addition, Ramsey County has a free brush disposal site in 31
Arden Hills located at Hudson Avenue and New Brighton Road. He reviewed the days and hours 32
the site is open for collection. 33
34
Mayor Marty asked that this information be posted on the City’s web site. Community 35
Development Director Ericson advised that it is already posted. 36
37
7. JUST AND CORRECT CLAIMS 38
39
MOTION/SECOND: Thomas/Gunn. To approve the Just and Correct Claims as Presented. 40
41
Ayes-5 Nays-0 Motion carried. 42
43
