Mounds View City Council July 25, 2005 <br />Regular Meeting Page 6 <br /> <br /> 1 <br />Ms. McIntire explained that they hold teen dances throughout the summer and is put on by the 2 <br />local teens and bands, which also helps to offset the costs. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Council Member Gunn asked if they could use volunteers for teen nights. 5 <br /> 6 <br />Ms. Remersmith stated that they could always use volunteers and invited anyone who would like 7 <br />to be involved to contact the YMCA for further information. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Ms. Remersmith stated that they are privileged to have hired Dan Weldon. She stated that Mr. 10 <br />Weldon is a native of Blaine and graduated from the University of Minnesota-Mankato and 11 <br />provided Council with a brief background. She stated that he has been working with the YMCA 12 <br />now for the past three weeks and they are lucky to have him on the team. 13 <br /> 14 <br />7. JUST AND CORRECT CLAIMS. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Ms. Berg asked Council to let her know if they want better explanations or clarifications included 17 <br />on the report. She stated that if they contact them prior to the meeting they would include 18 <br />whatever information they need to understand the expenses. 19 <br /> 20 <br />MOTION/SECOND. Marty/Flaherty. COUNCIL BUSINESS. 25 <br /> 26 <br />A. 7:05 Public Hearing to Consider Resolution 6587, Awarding a Construction 27 <br />Contract and authorizing a Letter of Agreement with TKDA for the 28 <br />Groveland Park Building Replacement Project. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Public Works Director stated that on July 14, 2005 the City received bids for the Groveland Park 31 <br />Building Replacement Project. He stated that they received two bids, the low bid came from 32 <br />Unicore Incorporated with a total base bid of $289,700 and as directed by City Council, the air 33 <br />conditioning unit was broken out as a separate bid alternate noting that the bid was for a total of 34 <br />$7,000. He stated that if the City Council should decide to proceed with this project the next two 35 <br />action steps would be to award a contract for this project and to authorize a letter of agreement 36 <br />with TKDA for construction services in the amount of $14,000. He stated that the total cost of 37 <br />this project including the engineering, the base bid, the bid alternate for the air conditioning unit 38 <br />and the construction services is $330,300. He stated that 65-percent would be funded through 39 <br />the Park Dedication Fund and 35-percent would be funded from the Special Project Fund. He 40 <br />stated that if City Council awards a contract for this project work would begin in August and 41 <br />would be substantially completed by November 30, 2005. He stated that along with the report 42 <br />submitted there are two letters included from TKDA, the letter of agreement for construction 43 <br />services and a letter of explanation as to why masonry construction is more expensive than 44 <br />residential stick construction and why masonry construction was recommended for this project. 45
