Item No. 09F
Type of Business: CB
Meeting Date: May 24, 2004
Administrator Review: ______ City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Kurt Ulrich, City Administrator
Item Title/Subject: Consideration of Resolution 6248 Adopting the City
Vision and Mission Statement
Date of Report: May 24, 2004

Introduction:

In March 2004, the city council and department heads held a “leadership-planning-team
building” retreat. The retreat was held at the Mounds View Community Center and
facilitated by Don Salverda, an outside consultant.

Over the two evenings of the retreat, the Council and Department Heads discussed the
past, present and future, and responded with a plan to address the challenges facing
the City of Mounds View.

Discussion

The group developed a shared vision for success, by agreeing on a formal revised
vision and mission statement. The proposed vision statement reads:

We see Mounds View as a proactive community that takes pride in its
achievements. We are responsive to the changing needs and interests of
our residents and businesses. As a result, our community thrives and
prospers.

The proposed mission statement reads:

Provide high quality public services that effectively address changing
citizen and community needs in a fiscally responsible and customer-
friendly manner.

Recommendation:
As part of the retreat follow-up the facilitator recommended that the Council formally
adopt the City Vision and Mission Statement. Resolution 6249 is presented for council
consideration and recommended approval.

Respectfully Submitted,

____________________
Kurt Ulrich
City Administrator
