REQUEST FOR PLANNING COMMISSION ACTION <br /> • Meeting Date: December 1, 1999 <br /> Staff Report by: James Ericson, Planning Associate <br /> Planning Case No.: 574-99, 575-99 <br /> Request: The applicant is requesting a Conditional Use Permit and <br /> Development Review to expand the Church by adding office space <br /> and classrooms. <br /> Petitioner: Vanman Companies representing Sunrise United Meth. Church <br /> Location: 7687 Long Lake Road <br /> PIN No. 08-30-23-22-0038 <br /> Present Zoning/Land Use: R-1, Single Family Residential/Church <br /> Applicable Regulations: Section 1006.06 states that a development review is required for all <br /> residential, commercial or industrial development or redevelopment. <br /> Section 1106.04, Subd 1 lists the CUP requirements for Churches <br /> and other public or semi-public institutional uses. <br /> • <br /> Section 1125.01 lists the general CUP and adverse affects criteria. <br /> Section 1121.13 lists the parking requirements for Churches and all <br /> other types of uses. - <br /> Background: <br /> The applicant, Vanman Companies, representing the property owner, Sunrise United Methodist <br /> Church, is requesting approval of a conditional use permit and development review to allow for the <br /> expansion of their Church facility located at 7687 Long Lake Road. The expanded areas will serve <br /> as additional space within the sanctuary and child care areas, will provide for office space for the <br /> pastor and other church workers and will add a meeting room and multi-use space for the staff and <br /> congregation. <br /> The expansion areas will be of brick construction and will match the exterior of the existing <br /> building. The total area of the expansion planned is 7,477 square feet for a total build out area of <br /> 20,464 after project completion. There will be a new covered entryway that connects to a new <br /> drop-off point adjacent to the parking lot, an expansion and reorientation of the worship area to <br /> increase seating capacity to 368 from the existing 275. In addition, there will be an expansion to <br /> accommodate additional space for Sunday school services. A kitchen area will be added along <br /> with some multi-purpose space, conference rooms, and office space for the Pastor and Church <br /> • staff There will not be an increase in services provided by the facility other than being able to <br /> accommodate more members in the sanctuary at a single service. <br />
