She stated that it was never communicated that there 1 <br />would be five mailboxes ganged together. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Public Works Director Lee stated that the plan is to have either two, three, or four per post, and 4 <br />that there is one on Gloria Circle that does have more than that. He stated this was worked out 5 <br />with the Postmaster General. He stated that there was no more they could have done as far as 6 <br />notification to residents. There had been notices sent out and neighborhood meetings. 7 <br /> 8 <br />Ms. Franke stated that she had been told there would be five mailboxes in front of her yard, and 9 <br />Public Works Director Lee stated that that was correct. 10 <br /> 11 <br />Council Member Stigney asked how far away from the individual homes the mailboxes would 12 <br />be. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Public Works Director Lee stated that would be 100 to 120 feet at most. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Council Member Stigney asked Ms. Franke what she was asking of the Council. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Ms. Franke stated she wanted the mailboxes to remain the way they are. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Council Member Quick asked if there were any other streets that had ganged mailboxes. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Public Works Director Lee stated that since the ordinance was put in place in 2000, Bronson 23 <br />Road and Spring Lake Park Road had received ganged mailboxes. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Council Member Stigney stated he had no problem with letting the residents choose what they 26 <br />wanted, and he would like to see what the majority wanted. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Public Works Director Lee stated that Staff was simply following the ordinance. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Mayor Linke stated that the ordinance would need to be changed in order to do what Council 31 <br />Member Stigney suggested, and Council Member Stigney stated that sometimes you have to do 32 <br />that. 33 <br /> 34 <br />Jonathan Thomas stated that he lived north of Groveland and their mailboxes were ganged, and 35 <br />he had noted that newspapers tended to collect in the street below the mailboxes. 36 <br /> 37 <br />William Moore, 2565 Shorewood Road, asked the Council to change the ordinance so the people 38 <br />could choose, and suggested that the City could require uniformity in the mailboxes. 39 <br /> 40 <br />City Clerk/Administrator Ulrich stated that the mailboxes are scheduled to be installed on 41 <br />Wednesday, and this matter was brought before the City Council because of citizen complaints. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Council Member Quick stated he thought they should direct Staff to prepare an amendment to the 44 <br />ordinance. 45
