Item No. 10E <br />Meeting Date: October 25, 2004 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; <br />CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business <br />City Administrator Review _______ <br /> City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution No. 6379 Approving a Step Increase for <br />John Hughes of the Parks Division of the Public <br />Works Department <br /> <br />Background <br />On May 5, 1999 John Hughes was hired as a Public Works Seasonal Employee. <br />He worked as a seasonal employee in the Public Works Department until July 7, <br />2000 – a total of 1363 hours. <br /> <br />On July 13, 2000, John Hughes was hired as a regular full-time employee as the <br />Custodial Maintenance Employee for the Community Center in the Parks Division <br />of the Public Works Department. <br /> <br />On April 14, 2003, the City Council approved Resolution No. 5986 approving a <br />Step Increase for John Hughes of the Parks Division of the Public Works <br />Department from Step 2 to Step 3. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />Mr. Hughes is a member of the Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit. As such, <br />Mr. Hughes is subject to the job classification system, as established in the Labor <br />Agreement with the City of Mounds View. Mr. Hughes is currently employed <br />at the Step 3 pay scale, which is $15.21 per hour. It should be noted that this rate <br />is based on the agreed amount for 2003 (2002 rates plus 3%). <br /> <br />The Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit is currently working with the City to <br />update the Labor Agreement for 2004 and 2005. As currently proposed in the <br />Labor Agreement, this position will be classified as a full-time Community Center <br />Custodial / Public Works Maintenance position from the first payroll period in <br />2004 through the last payroll period in 2005. If approved, labor rates in the <br />agreement would apply to this position. <br /> <br /> <br />
