EDC Minutes <br />February 16, 2018 <br />Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br />Other Upcoming Events/Reports <br /> <br />Beeman informed the Commission that the City offices will be closed February 19, 2018 <br />in observance of Presidents’ Day and normal hours will resume February 20, 2018 from <br />8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Beeman informed the Commission that the iconic Mermaid statute <br />has been removed and the owners have it in storage and expect to reinstall the statute <br />somewhere on the property in the future. The reason given for removal was that it was <br />causing the roof to leak. The Town Hall meeting will be held April 30, 2018 at City Hall <br />from 6:00-8:30 p.m. The announcement of Citizen of the Year will be held at this <br />meeting. Beeman reminded the EDC that the deadline for the Citizen of the Year <br />applications are due Friday March 30, 2018. <br /> <br />Beeman informed the EDC that the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf is looking for a new <br />location of about 4000-5000 Sq.Ft. and would like a space within the Mounds View or <br />New Brighton school district. Mounds View is now a Heart Safe community. Police <br />Officer, Kirsten Heineman organized over 20 events to teach CPR & the use of a <br />defibrillator. An App can be downloaded that identifies the location of AED devices <br />wherever you are located in case of an emergency. <br /> <br />The Comprehensive Plan Task Force is underway working on a vision and future <br />development of Mounds View for the next 20 years. Commissioner Muckala & Farmer <br />are members of the Task Force. Farmer mentioned that anyone may view the Task <br />Force meeting videos by access them from the City’s website. Muckala informed the <br />EDC that the Task Force has identified key arterial areas from other communities and <br />compared those to Mounds View and will continue to work on ideas and plans to be <br />included in the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />The Public Works building has been completed and final landscaping will occur in the <br />summer of 2018. Tennis courts will be improved at Greenfield and Groveland Parks in <br />2018. City Hall Park will be upgraded in 2018 with new playground equipment and the <br />City Council will be reviewing proposals for a splash pad. The project is expected to be <br />completed by late summer 2018. <br /> <br />Beeman reminded the EDC that this year marks the City’s 60th Anniversary and <br />residents and business owners are encouraged to add their historical stories and <br />pictures to the “Mounds View Memories” Facebook page and fill out the questionnaire <br />that was mailed in the last round of utilities bills. <br /> <br />8. REPORTS OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />Commissioner Breske said he was glad to be part of the Commission and having the <br />opportunity to learn more about the City. There were no other reports. <br /> <br />9. NEXT REGULAR EDC MEETING <br /> <br />Chair Freichels reminded the Commissioners that the next EDC meeting will be held <br />March 16, 2018 at 7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />
