<br />Item No: 7B <br />Meeting Date: January 12, 2015 <br />Type of Business: EDA <br />City Administrator Review: _____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Economic Development Authority <br />From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 15-EDA-287, Appointing Members to the Economic <br />Development Commission (EDC) <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The Economic Development Commission (EDC) is comprised of seven members – three business <br />representatives and four resident representatives. The terms are three years. Dr. Greg Belting and <br />Jim Paron EDC term seats expired on December 31, 2014. According to the Mounds View City Code <br />Section 408.03: <br /> <br /> <br />The Commission shall be composed of seven (7) equal voting <br />members, including three (3) business representatives and four (4) <br />residents, appointed by the Authority Board of Commissioners based <br />on the recommendation of the Economic Development Commission, <br />from the applications submitted. Members shall have diverse <br />qualifications with practical experience consisting of, not limited to, <br />but including one (1) of the following areas: economics, finance, <br />accounting, real estate, social services and marketing. <br /> <br />Dr. Belting and Mr. Paron will not be resubmitting their application for a further term. In addition, <br />Jessica Birkin, a resident member of the EDC, is resigning and her seat term expiration date is <br />currently December 31, 2016. This would leave one business representative opening and two <br />resident openings on the EDC. <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Staff received three (3) applications from Laurie Shoop, Jessica Reiland, and Royal Dahlstom <br />(applications attached). The EDC considered the applications at their December meeting, and <br />recommended to the EDA to approve Laurie Shoop (resident representative – term expiration <br />December 31, 2016); Royal Dahlstrom (resident representative – term expiration December 31, <br />2017), and Jessica Rieland (business representative – term expiration December 31, 2017). <br /> <br />Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the EDA consider the EDC recommendations and consider Laurie <br />Shoop, Royal Dahlstrom and Jessica Rieland to the EDC. <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />________________________ <br />Desaree Crane <br /> <br />County
