Item Number: 7A <br />Meeting Date: February 23, 2009 <br />Type of Business: EDA <br />Administrator Review: _____ <br /> <br /> City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> To: Economic Development Authority (EDA) <br /> Economic Development Commission (EDC) <br /> From: Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist <br /> Item Title/Subject: Mounds View Branding Project − Discovery Findings Report <br /> and Preliminary Brand Strategy <br /> <br />Background <br />In August 2008, the EDA authorized a contract with Risdall Marketing Group to work <br />with City staff to complete the Mounds View Branding Project. The main purpose of the <br />project is to refresh and accurately portray Mounds View’s image or brand to residents, <br />businesses, prospective businesses and visitors. <br /> <br />The project consists of the following two parts: <br /> <br />1. Develop a brand strategy and new logo/tagline for Mounds View (derived from <br />resident and business surveys, interviews and research) <br /> <br />2. Develop a public communications/marketing plan (based on the brand strategy) <br /> <br />Most recently, Risdall Marketing Group presented the EDC and EDA/City Council with <br />the following two survey reports: <br /> <br />• January 2009 City Council Work Session - Residents Image Survey Report <br /> <br />• February 2009 City Council Work Session - Business Operators Survey Report <br /> <br />The executive summaries of both reports are available to the public on the City’s <br />Website and the full reports are available at City Hall. Staff e-mailed the full Business <br />Operators Survey Report to Mounds View businesses (those who have e-mail <br />addresses available). Staff also provided the report to the president of the Twin Cities <br />North Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />At the February 23, 2009 EDA meeting, the staff from Risdall will present the EDC and <br />EDA with the following: <br /> <br />• Discovery Findings Report (summary of all research) <br />• Mounds View’s Preliminary Brand Strategy <br />
