<br /> <br />Item No: 2A <br />Meeting Date: May 3, 2004 <br />Type of Business: Work Session <br />Administrator Review: _____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Tracy Juell, Administrative Assistant, Public Works <br />Department <br />Item Title/Subject: Limited Garbage/Recycling Pickup Days within the City <br />& <br />Update on SCORE Grant Compliance regarding <br />Recycling availability for Multi-Family Dwellings <br /> <br />Introduction: <br />During the May 12, July 7 and November 3, 2003 Council meetings discussion was made <br />regarding the possibility of limiting residential and multi-family garbage/recycling pickups <br />to 1 or 2 days per week within the City. <br />Also <br />Ramsey County informed Staff that the City was not in compliance with the SCORE <br />Grant because Multi-Family dwellings are not required to provide recycling services for <br />their residents. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />Limited Garbage/Recycling Pickup Days <br />In May of 2003, Staff surveyed the residential and multi-family garbage haulers asking <br />them what day(s) of the week would be preferred for their business and customers <br />should the City decide to limit pickup days: <br /> <br />Hauler 1 Day Preferred 2Days Preferred Comments <br />Ace Thursday Thursday Just Fine <br />BFI Thursday Thursday/Friday Would prefer to <br />keep open hauling <br />for routing issues. <br />Larry’s Quality <br />Sanitation <br />Wednesday Wednesday Has picked up <br />garbage in MV for <br />35 yrs and it has <br />always been a <br />Wednesday, he <br />does not want to <br />change the day of <br />the week.. <br />Walters Can’t do Monday/Thursday Picks up <br />apartment <br />buildings and <br />businesses and <br />they require at <br />least 3 days. But <br />he will work with <br />the City on <br />anything! <br />Waste Mgmt Monday Monday/Wednesday Keep with the 1 <br />day a week pickup <br />if possible.
