Mounds View City Council January 6, 2003 <br />Special Meeting Page 2 <br /> <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 1 <br /> 2 <br />6. PUBLIC INPUT 3 <br /> 4 <br />William Werner of 2765 Sherwood Road asked which laws newly sworn in officials swore to 5 <br />uphold. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Mayor Linke indicated the laws of the United States Constitution and the laws of the State of 8 <br />Minnesota. 9 <br /> 10 <br />Mr. Werner asked if officials swore to uphold the Mounds View City Charter. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Mayor Linke indicated that upholding the Charter was part of newly elected officials 13 <br />responsibilities. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Mr. Werner commented that it would be nice if incoming officials would take an oath to uphold 16 <br />the City Charter. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Mayor Linke indicated he thought the same thing but the oath is boiler-plate language that 19 <br />everyone takes. 20 <br /> 21 <br />Interim City Administrator Ericson indicated the wording was from the Charter. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Mr. Werner indicated there have been problems in the City with members not upholding the Oath 24 <br />of the City Charter. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Council Member Stigney indicated that this came up some time ago and at that time it was 27 <br />discussed with the City Attorney and it is his opinion that the wording in the encompasses the 28 <br />fact that the elected officials must follow the Charter. He then indicated he had asked whether 29 <br />the City could put wording in about the Charter but the City Attorney had said it would be 30 <br />redundant. 31 <br /> 32 <br />7. Resolution 5918, Selection of Official City Newspaper, Acting Mayor, 39 <br />Treasurer and Official Depository for 2003 40 <br /> 41 <br />Interim City Administrator Ericson indicated the City needed to choose its official newspaper, 42 <br />acting Mayor and official depository for 2003. 43 <br /> 44 <br />Mayor Linke recommended that Council Member Marty serve as acting Mayor. 45
