Mounds View City Council February 10, 2003 <br />Regular Meeting Page 17 <br /> <br />Mayor Linke indicated if the City would advertise but the advertisement would direct that 1 <br />information be sent to the search group. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Mayor Linke commented that his main concern is that Roseville has the time to complete the 4 <br />project quickly for the City. 5 <br /> 6 <br />Council Member Stigney asked if Staff needed Council to have an emergency meeting to discuss 7 <br />this rather than waiting for the next meeting. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Interim City Administrator Ericson indicated he was not sure how quickly the groups would be 10 <br />able to provide the additional information requested. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Council asked Staff to advise if there was a need for a special meeting. 13 <br /> 14 <br />G. Resolution 5948, a Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of Voice Recognition 15 <br />Software Program and Necessary Computer Upgrades Utilizing LLEBG 16 <br />Grant Funds. 17 <br /> 18 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Marty. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 5948, a 19 <br />Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of Voice Recognition Software Program and Necessary 20 <br />Computer Upgrades Utilizing LLEBG Grant Funds. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Council Member Stigney indicated that early versions of voice recognition software were not 23 <br />very functional and asked whether this software would be. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Chief Sommer indicated that Staff has investigated this software and there are other agencies 26 <br />using it. He then said that Staff recommends the purchase of the software and computers. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Council Member Stigney indicated that previous police administration has said there was a need 29 <br />for portable video surveillance and asked if that is no longer a priority. 30 <br /> 31 <br />Chief Sommer indicated that it was his understanding that there are limitations for utilizing the 32 <br />grant funds and this technology fits into those guidelines. He further commented that the funds 33 <br />needed to be spent before February 28, 2003. 34 <br /> 35 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 36 <br /> 37 <br />Council Member Marty indicated he had thought Council approved matching funds for a grant 38 <br />for new computers in the squads but they were never obtained. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Council Member Quick indicated Council approved matching funds but he is not sure whether 41 <br />the City got the grant. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Chief Sommer indicated that the grant was proposed but never materialized. 44 <br /> 45
