Public Works Department Quarterly Report 1 <br /> 2 <br />Mayor Linke thanked Staff for the informative report. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Public Works Director Lee indicated the report was lengthy and then highlighted the current 5 <br />projects for Council. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Council Member Marty asked whether SEH has requested the reimbursement for MSA funds and 8 <br />asked for a status. 9 <br /> 10 <br />Public Works Director Lee indicated that he and the Finance Director discussed the matter and 11 <br />Mr. Hansen has put together a report for SEH to make sure that they seek the proper 12 <br />reimbursement. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Council Member Marty asked if it was possible to hold off on payments and stop sending work 15 <br />to SEH until the payments are made. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Council Member Quick asked when it would be time to discuss the next street project. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Public Works Director Lee indicated that Staff intended to have a long range plan put together by 20 <br />August for discussion. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Council Member Quick indicated that Staff should look into the streets plan for 2004 now 23 <br />because of the timing involved. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Council asked that 2004 streets project be added to the May 5, 2003 work session. 26 <br /> 27 <br /> D. Finance Quarterly Report 28 <br /> 29 <br />Finance Director Hansen indicated most of his report was routine and then went through some 30 <br />highlights for Council. He then indicated that the City ended up with a surplus of $1,047,000 31 <br />rather than the projected $789,000. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Finance Director Hansen indicated the factors leading to the surplus were that revenues were 34 <br />over budget by $250,000 and expenditures were under budget by $800,000 which stems from 35 <br />staff vacancies and other budget cutting that was done to save funds. 36 <br /> 37 <br />Council Member Marty indicated he thought there were two open police positions not three as 38 <br />stated in the report. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Finance Director Hansen explained that in 2001 Council created two additional positions that 41 <br />were to be funded by a COPS grant and when the grant did not come through they were not 42 <br />hired. He then explained that the City was without a Finance Director and during the preparation 43 <br />of the 2002 budget those positions remained in the budget and a third position was added because 44
