COUNCIL BUSINESS 20
21
A. Public Hearing, Second Reading and Adoption of Ordinance 717, an 22
Ordinance Amending the City Code Relating to On Sale Liquor 23
Establishments. 24
25
Mayor Linke opened the public hearing at 8:05 p.m. 26
27
Community Development Director Ericson indicated that this Ordinance had its first reading at 28
the July 14, 2003 meeting and Staff was asked to provide information as to what other local cities 29
are doing. He then said that he has that information and can share it after taking public comment. 30
He further commented that Staff has received significant public input and the opinions have been 31
split as to those for the 2:00 a.m. closing and those against. 32
33
Community Development Director Ericson indicated that those that are against the 2:00 a.m. 34
closing have expressed concern about putting more intoxicated drivers on the road later and 35
taxing the City’s police department causing more expense for the City. 36
37
David Jahnke of 8428 Eastwood Road indicated that he hopes that the City votes for this and the 38
reason being is he read the reports and there are mixed reports on whether to close at 1:00 a.m. or 39
2:00 a.m. but he fears that the City will not be able to compete with St. Paul for the Banquet 40
Center if the City does not have that extra hour. He further commented that he hopes Council 41
approves it based on the potential impact to the finances of the City because he feels it would 42
hurt the City not to have that extra hour. 43
44
