2401 County Highway 10
Mounds View, MN 55112
Ramsey County
• Automated Pawn System Use
• Youth Enforcement Issues: Alcohol, Drugs, Driving
• Intoxalyzer recertification course.
• Taser certification course.
• Power point I.
• Emergency management leadership and decision making
• Conceal and carry training
• DARE- new curriculum training.
• Department handgun qualification shoot.

Records Management System / Mobile Computing

Our research into new records management systems for the Department continues. We are
nearing a decision on the system with the best fit for us. We hope to join other Ramsey
County suburban law enforcement agencies and share a combined system. We have held
numerous meetings with surrounding police agencies and records management system
vendors. There are many factors under consideration including the ability to access old
records, the ability to keep information received from the computer aided dispatch and to
augment that data with information from other Internet accessible systems and use this
information in real time on various patrol calls.

Mounds View resident Rob Chafee, an independent project management consultant whose
clients include 3M, Cargill, Medtronic, and numerous mid and small size companies
contacted the Police Department with a desire to give something back to his city and offered
to volunteer his assistance to us in our records management and mobile computing project.
Mr. Chafee has attended informational meetings and spent some time learning the
productivity issues, effectiveness, and safety concerns surrounding the need for upward
transfer of data to County, State and Federal systems and increasing availability of valuable
information in these systems to law enforcement officers. His assistance has been helpful in
guiding us through the choices that will help us take advantage of the rapid advances in the
information technology market as we update our technology to current standards. We will be
setting up a new squad car this year with a mobile digital computer that will tie into multiple
information systems. Within three years all squads have to be equipped with mobile digital
computers to accommodate the 800MHz radio system. Plans are under way to incrementally
replace the 20 to 30-year-old mobile data terminals currently in use in our squads with new
mobile digital computers.

6
